Stefan Wahe, Deputy CIO, UW-Madison

Stefan has been working in the cybersecurity space at UW-Madison since 2001. Currently he holds the positions as the UW-Madison Deputy Chief Information Office as well as the campus HIPAA Security Officer.  Stefan’s accomplishments range from establishing mandatory access control processes for enterprise applications, to developing standards for assisting the security of identity management systems.  He played a prominent role in the re-branding of the UW-Madison Officer of Cybersecurity as well as drafting the 2015-2019 Cybersecurity Strategic plan. Stefan has been largely focused on leading efforts to identify and assess risk.  Previous to his higher education experience, he worked for the Wisconsin State Legislature to automate and secure the bill drafting process. Stefan’s work includes publishing the Open Enterprise Security Architecture (O-ESA): A Framework and Template for Policy-Driven Security Stefan grew-up in the Quad Cities and graduated from Rock Island High School.
